- Not stored in proper conditions
- Low quality media
- Stored on floppy disks: 8 inch & 5.25 inch
- Formats
- Proprietary formats for a software package that is at risk
- An obsolete format, such as: .wp3, .wld, .afm, and others
- Other
- Flash drives, if storing data for extended periods of time
