Identifying Items At Risk

  1. Software
    • No longer sold
    • No longer widely used at the university
    • Out of date versions no longer supported by the university or vendor
    • Older versions at the end of the product life cycle
  2. Hardware
    • Dependent on hardware that is no longer supported by university or vendor
    • Dependent on hardware that is at the end of the product life cycle, such as:
      • Floppy drives: 8 inch,  5.25 inch & 3.5 inch
  3. Media (disks, tapes, etc.)
    • Not stored in proper conditions
    • Low quality media
    • Stored on floppy disks: 8 inch & 5.25 inch
  4. Formats
    • Proprietary formats for a software package that is at risk
    • An obsolete format, such as: .wp3, .wld, .afm, and others
  5. Other
    • Flash drives, if storing data for extended periods of time
